Stable Welded Connection

Sanitary weld fittings use a butt-welded structure, which can form a fixed, continuous piping system after welding, so that the seals are not easily aged or loosened. For production lines that require 24/7 operation or frequent cleaning, this pipe fitting can effectively reduce the risk of leakage and reduce the number of downtimes due to maintenance. Welded pipe fittings are often used in trunk pipelines, while detachable connections are set at maintenance points, which not only ensures the overall stability of the system, but also facilitates daily inspection and maintenance.

Smooth Inner Wall for Easy Cleaning

Smooth Inner Wall for Easy Cleaning

The interior walls of Sanitary weld fittings are polished for smooth weld transitions, effectively reducing liquid retention and residue. In environments where frequent CIP or SIP cleaning is required, this design can reduce cleaning time and improve efficiency. By controlling the interior wall roughness during the design phase, the problem of rework or repeated cleaning can be avoided. When selecting, only the material and surface treatment need to be confirmed according to the project standards, no additional modification is required.

What Is the Difference Between Sanitary Weld Fittings and Regular Welded Pipe Fittings?

OMSS’ sanitary welded pipe fittings have many design and manufacturing differences compared to ordinary welded pipe fittings. Our pipe fittings are made of 304, 304L, or  316L stainless steel material, and the inner surface is polished to achieve a finish of Ra≤0.8μm, meeting hygiene standards such as 3A, BPE, and DIN. These features make our pipe fittings perform well in high standard inspection in the food, dairy and pharmaceutical industries.

Why Are Welded Pipe Fittings More Suitable for Food and Beverage Production Lines?

Food and beverage production lines often have to withstand high flows, frequent product switching, and are particularly demanding on hygiene. Welded pipe fittings provide a fixed and continuous connection, avoiding the leakage and loosening problems that can result from clamps or threaded connections, and are therefore more suitable for this demanding production environment.

How to Choose the Right Angle for Sanitary Weld Elbow?

OMSS provides welding elbows at common angles such as 45°, 90°, 180°, etc. When you choose, you should consider the layout of your pipeline and your flow requirements. For long straight pipe sections or systems that need to handle large flow rates, it is recommended to use large radius elbows. This can help reduce pressure losses and reduce turbulence phenomena, maintaining fluid stability.

What Is the Role of the Sanitary Weld Reducer in the System?

Welded reducing fittings are used for smooth transitions between different pipe diameters. Their function is to ensure the safe operation of the pipeline system and control the changes in pressure and flow rate. The OMSS Reducer has a smooth transition between the inner and outer walls, which can minimize local turbulence, avoid flow fluctuations, and ensure smooth operation of the system.

When Choosing Sanitary Weld Tee, How Do You Consider Branch Traffic and System Balance?

OMSS provides Tee pipe fittings of multiple specifications, which can control the flow diversion ratio by adjusting the inner diameter ratio and branch angle to ensure uniform distribution of fluid. If the branch flow does not exceed 40% of the trunk flow, a standard 90° Tee can be used. If the branch flow rate exceeds 40%, it is recommended that you choose a large diameter or long radius Tee, which can reduce pressure loss and ensure the flow balance of the system.

Sanitary Welded Pipe Fittings Tips

What is Weld Port Accuracy?

Weld port accuracy refers to whether the various dimensions of the welded end of the pipe fit meet the standard tolerance range. This precision not only affects the accuracy of the dimensions, but is also directly related to whether the pipe connection is smooth and the inner wall after welding is flat.

During welding, it is particularly necessary to pay attention to the following dimensions: outer diameter, wall thickness, roundness (or ellipticity), end face verticality and end face flatness.

When selecting and accepting, you can check each item one by one as follows:

Tolerance of External Diameter

The outer diameter of welded pipe fittings must be consistent with the pipe standards used in the field.

For example, for a 1.5″ pipe, the outer diameter is fixed at 38.1 mm, and the allowable deviation is usually ±0.2 mm, and the specific value is based on the standard. If the outer diameter exceeds the tolerance range, the positioning of the pipe fittings during welding will be unstable, which may easily cause uneven butt joint gaps, thereby increasing the risk of wrong edges.

Tolerance of Wall Thickness

The wall thickness of the pipe fittings must meet the standard tolerances of the pipe. The wall thickness of sanitary stainless steel pipes generally allows a deviation of ±10% of the nominal wall thickness.

For example, if the nominal wall thickness is 1.65 mm, the permissible deviation range is approximately between 1.49 mm and 1.82 mm. If the actual wall thickness deviation exceeds the standard tolerance, steps may form on the inner wall after welding, affecting the cleanliness. High-clean systems usually require that the inner wall misalignment be controlled within 0.3mm after welding. Otherwise, it will need to be repaired in the later stage, increasing the construction difficulty and cost.

Roundness (Ellipticity)

Roundness issues directly affect the clearance when pipe fittings are docked. Common situations are one side with a larger gap and the other side with a smaller gap.

You can use calipers to measure the outer diameter in two vertical directions. If the difference between the measurements in the two directions exceeds the allowable range, it means that the pipe may have undergone elliptical deformation. In such cases, a forced butt joint may not ensure weld quality.

End Surface Verticality and End Surface Flatness

The end face of the welded pipe fitting shall be perpendicular to the axis of the pipe fitting and shall be kept flat. If the end face is not vertical or flat, it may cause one side to fit and one side to hang in the air when docking.

The docking gap can be checked with a feeler gauge in the field. If the gap on one side is too large, it means that the end face processing may be deviated and needs to be trimmed before welding.

Installation and Inspection

Principles of Use of the Connection Method

During the actual installation, there are sometimes situations where different connection methods need to be mixed. It should be noted that sanitary welded pipe fittings should preferably not be mixed directly with clamps or threaded pipe fittings.

The reason is that welding, clamps and threads are three different connection systems. They differ greatly in their sealing surface structure, compression method, and inner wall structure. If they are directly mixed, it may lead to loose seals, dead spots on the inner wall or overall strength mismatch, which will directly affect the cleanliness and stability of the pipeline.

If the site does require a change in connection, a dedicated adapter should be used to complete the transition in a standardized manner while ensuring that the system meets hygiene-grade requirements.

Quick Inspection Methods for On-site Quality

A simple quality check before installation can effectively reduce hidden dangers in the later stage without the need for complex equipment.

Check Appearance

Check the weld surface for obvious defects such as cracks, pores or slag inclusions, and confirm whether the surface transition is smooth.

Check Dimensions

Verify that the port specifications meet the design requirements and confirm whether the amount of inner wall misalignment after docking is within the acceptable range.

Sealing Inspection

Perform a simple airtightness test to confirm that there is no leakage at the pipe connection and verify the reliability of the connection.

Check the Condition of the Inner and Outer Surfaces

Ensure that the surface of the pipe fittings is free of rust and impurities and meets the requirements of the sanitary system.
