Engineered for Leak-Free Hygienic Connections

A set of clamp ferrules usually consists of two clamps, one gasket, and one three-clamp. Through the conical flange design, an even force-distribution structure is formed when the clamps are tightened, guaranteeing reliable sanitary sealing. Precise size control guarantees no misalignment during assembly and can reduce the leakage. This structure is always applied in high-value fluid systems, which can guarantee safe production and continuous operation.

Applications of Sanitary Clamp Ferrules

Food & Dairy Processing Plants
Food & Dairy Processing Plants

In milk, yogurt, cheese, and liquid food production lines, the piping system needs to be frequently cleaned and hygienically inspected by CIP. OMSS’s clamp ferrules can prevent dead corners through a precise sealing structure. The inner surface with a Ra 0.8 μm polishing treatment is conducive to reducing bacterial adhesion.

Beverage & Brewing Systems
Beverage & Brewing Systems

During the processes of brewing, fermentation, filtration, and filling, the purity of the fluid is of vital importance. We have tri-clamp ferrules that can accomplish a stable seal by pressing the conical flange against the gasket, greatly preventing air and impurities from entering the system.

Pharmaceutical & Biotechnology Facilities
Pharmaceutical & Biotechnology Facilities

The pharmaceutical and bioreactor systems have high requirements for material traceability, cleanliness, and pressure grades. The 316L stainless steel material and ASME specification design can meet the needs of a sterile environment. OMSS’s clamp ferrules can be used in the bioreactors, filter housings, and sterile conveying systems, which will guarantee no leakage, no contamination, and support rapid verification and disassembly.

Industrial Chemical & Coating Plants
Industrial Chemical & Coating Plants

In systems for transporting paints, fertilizers, adhesives, and other chemical media, the pipeline components require good corrosion resistance and reliable sealing performance. Our 316 or 316L stainless steel clamp ferrules are able to adapt to different corrosive fluid environments. What’s more, the stable sealing structure can prevent leakage and guarantee safe production in the factory.

Cosmetics & Personal Care Manufacturing

What are the Differences Between the Sanitary Clamp Ferrule and the Tri Clamp?

The sanitary clamp ferrule is the core component that is welded at the end of the pipe and provides the sealing surface. While the tri clamp is an external locking device. The sleeve is responsible for forming the sealing interface, and the clamp is responsible for applying pressure and fixing the connection. Both must be used together to form a complete sanitary clamp connection system. Without the sleeve, the clamp cannot form an effective seal.

What are the Surface Roughness Requirements for Sanitary Clamp Ferrule?

In the food and beverage industry, the inner surface of the sleeve usually requires Ra 0.8 μm or lower. In the pharmaceutical system, some applications have higher surface finish requirements. Lower surface roughness can reduce bacterial attachment and improve CIP (Continuous In-Line Cleaning) and SIP (Continuous In-Line Sterilization) effects, so it will guarantee the hygiene safety of the production process.

What are the Differences Between the Short-Weld Type and Long-Weld Type Sanitary Clamp Ferrule?

The short-weld type has a compact structure and is suitable for conventional sanitary pipe systems. The long-weld type has a longer welding end, providing a larger welding area, and is perfect for high-vibration or high-pressure environments. For systems with more stringent operating conditions, the long-weld type has an advantage.

Is the Sanitary Clamp Ferrule Suitable for CIP and SIP Systems?

Yes, the Sanitary clamp ferrule is designed for sanitary systems and is suitable for CIP and SIP processes. The clamp connection method supports quick disassembly, so it is convenient for inspection and verification. When using 316L material and reaching the appropriate surface roughness, it can meet the needs of high-temperature sterilization and repeated cleaning.

What Is a Sanitary Clamp Ferrule?

Sanitary clamp ferrule is a precision stainless steel connection component for sanitary piping systems, and is usually welded at the end of a pipe or at the interface of a piece of equipment. It is connected to another end ferrule through a gasket and three clamps, forming a detachable, cleanable, and reusable sealing connection structure.

A complete clamp ferrule usually consists of four parts:

  • Two ferrules are welded at the end of the pipe
  • A sanitary gasket located in the middle
  • A Tri Clamp (three clamp) is used for locking purposes

The sealing principle of the sanitary clamp ferrule is based on “axial compression + uniform force”.

When the clamp is tightened, the flange surfaces of the rings are uniformly compressed, and the gasket is compressed to fill the gap, forming a sanitary-level leak-free sealing structure at the interface. This design avoids the multi-bolt structure in traditional flange connections, simplifies the installation process, and improves the disassembly and assembly efficiency.

How to Choose the Right Sanitary Clamp Ferrule?

Pipeline Standard System

Different countries adopt different sanitary piping standards, and the sizes and sealing structures are not universal. Common standards include ASME BPE, 3-A Sanitary Standards, ISO 2852, and DIN 11850. Before purchasing, you should confirm whether the outer diameter, wall thickness, and clamp interface type match the existing system. Choosing the wrong standard will lead to installation failure or leakage.

Stainless Steel Material

Common materials are 304 and 316L. 304 can be chosen when the environment is not highly corrosive. If the system involves acid-base cleaning, high-temperature steam, or pharmaceutical processes, you should select 316L. 316L contains molybdenum, which has a stronger corrosion resistance. For export projects, you need to provide a 3.1 material report because it will guarantee material traceability.

Surface Roughness Grade

Surface roughness determines the cleaning effectiveness. The food industry usually requires Ra ≤ 0.8 μm. In pharmaceutical and bioengineering systems, it may require Ra ≤ 0.6 μm or electro-polishing treatment. The smoother the surface, the easier it is to clean. Do not overlook this point, because it will affect the hygiene level of the system.

Connection Type

Clamp ferrules are always applied in butt-weld type, short-weld type, and custom-made type. The butt-weld type is suitable for fixed installation and has a more stable structure. The short-weld type suits locations with limited space. When choosing, you should consider the pipe thickness and installation environment. If the welding length is unreasonable, stress concentration problems may appear.

Work Pressure and Temperature

Although the Clamp system is often used in medium and low-pressure circumstances, the different thickness of the material can influence its ability to withstand pressure. If the system has high-temperature steam or undergoes frequent thermal cycles, you should confirm whether the material is suitable. Ignoring temperature changes can cause deformation or seal failure.

Sealing Fit Accuracy

The ferrule itself does not provide sealing. The true sealing comes from the gasket and the clamping pressure. However, the machining accuracy of the sealing surface is crucial. If there are burrs or knife marks on the sealing surface, even with high-quality gaskets, leakage may still occur.
