The clamp type structure offers you rapid installation, allows repeated disassembly and reassembly without welded blind spots. They are highly suitable for piping systems in food processing, pharmaceutical manufacturing, and cleanroom facilities.

Weld Sanitary Stainless Steel Pipe Fittings
Weld Sanitary Stainless Steel Pipe Fittings

Create an integral structure by directly welding with the pipeline with high strength, good sealing performance, and almost no leakage risk. Therefore, in petrochemicals, power, energy and long-term operation equipment, staple-welded pipe fittings are usually the preferred solution.

Socket-welded Sanitary Stainless Steel Pipe Fittings

The pipeline is inserted into the socket and then welded, which simplifies the alignment requirements and improves construction efficiency. If your project requires rapid installation of small-diameter high-pressure systems, the socket-welded structure will be more suitable.

Threaded Sanitary Stainless Steel Pipe Fittings

What Are The Differences between Sanitary Stainless Steel Pipe Fittings and Ordinary Industrial Pipe Fittings?

Sanitary pipe fittings are mainly used in food, pharmaceutical, bioengineering and dairy systems, with higher requirements for surface roughness, weld treatment and structural cleanliness. Compared with ordinary industrial pipe fittings, our sanitary stainless steel pipe fittings usually show a polishing inner wall, no retention structure design, and meet CIP/SIP cleaning verification requirements. They can significantly reduce the contamination risk from the source.

If your system needs to pass hygiene audits or validations, it is recommended to choose the sanitary solution first.

What Are The Common Connection Methods for Sanitary Stainless Steel Pipe Fittings?

Common connections include clamp connection, welding connection and threaded connection. You can choose based on the cleaning frequency, maintenance cycle and pressure grade.

Clamp connection is convenient for your frequent cleaning and is commonly adopted in systems that need regular maintenance.

Welding connection has the best sealing performance and is suitable for long-term fixed pipelines.

Threaded connection is mostly used for auxiliary pipelines or instrument interfaces.

Are Sanitary Stainless Steel Pipe Fittings Suitable for High-temperature Steam Cleaning?

Generally speaking, 316L sanitary stainless steel pipe fittings can withstand high-temperature steam sterilization (SIP), but it is still necessary to conduct a comprehensive assessment considering the sealing material, system pressure and temperature cycling conditions.

If your system has frequent steam cleaning conditions, it is recommended to provide operating parameters during the selection stage, and we can help you to quickly confirm the structural and material matching scheme.

Material Selection for Sanitary Stainless Steel Pipe Fittings

When choosing sanitary stainless steel pipe fittings, the material directly affects your system’s corrosion resistance, service life, and maintenance costs. Therefore, it is necessary to make a comprehensive judgment based on the medium characteristics, environmental conditions, and hygiene standards.

304 Stainless Steel

304 stainless steel is the most widely used general material with good resistance to atmospheric corrosion. It can be applied in freshwater, weak acid and alkali environments, and most food processing scenarios. Due to its stable processing performance and moderate cost, if the system medium is relatively mild and not sensitive to chloride ions, 304 is often a cost-effective choice for you.

316L Stainless Steel

316L stainless steel is enhanced with molybdenum and reduced carbon content compared to 304, making it more stable in resistance to chloride ion corrosion, pitting, and crevice corrosion. And 316L is more suitable for long-term operation for environments with salt content, humid workshops, pharmaceutical clean systems, or production lines requiring frequent steam sterilization. It can handle conditions with temperature from -20°C to 250°C and withstand 121°C high-pressure steam sterilization repeatedly (usually over 1000 times), which is safer in sanitary piping systems.

317L Stainless Steel

317L stainless steel has a higher molybdenum content and is more resistant to corrosion in strong corrosive media or high chloride ion environments than 316L, but it is also more expensive. Therefore, it is typically used in systems with particularly strict corrosion resistance requirements in chemical or pharmaceutical industries.

Duplex Stainless Steel

Duplex stainless steel combines both austenitic and ferritic structures, offering you with higher strength and excellent resistance to stress corrosion cracking. If you are a customer in the fields of marine engineering, oil and gas transportation, or strong acid chemical processing, duplex steel can provide longer structural stability.

How to Produce Sanitary Stainless Steel Pipe Fittings

Sanitary stainless steel pipe fittings are made from seamless tubes or high-quality welded tubes. The raw materials undergo chemical composition testing and material confirmation to ensure compliance with ASTM or EN standards.

Then they are processed through CNC cutting, cold forming, or precision forging. During the bending, expansion, or reduction processes, the deformation amount and forming parameters are strictly controlled to deliver you with uniform wall thickness, no cracks, and no wrinkles.

After processing, the pipe fittings will generate stress, and the intergranular structure may also change. The solution treatment involves rapid cooling after high-temperature heating, allowing the material to return to a uniform austenitic structure and maximizing its corrosion resistance. This ensures the sanitary stainless steel pipe fittings maintain stable performance in long-term running, steam sterilization, or corrosive media environments.

The heat-treated pipe fittings’ surface will form an oxide layer. We remove this oxide layer through acid washing and perform passivation treatment to generate a dense passivation film on the surface.

Finally, the inner and outer surfaces are mechanically polished or electrochemically polished to achieve a roughness of the inner wall that meets hygiene standards.

These processes ensure your sanitary stainless steel pipe fittings have both excellent corrosion resistance and meet the cleanliness and washability requirements of the food, dairy, beverage, and pharmaceutical industries.

How to Choose Sanitary Stainless Steel Pipe Fittings

Pipe Dimensions and Types

First to ensure your sanitary stainless steel pipe fittings match the outer diameter, wall thickness, and interface standards of the pipeline, such as common ISO, DIN, SMS, or ASME BPE specifications. Incompatibility in dimensions can lead to leakage and also cause system failures during pressure fluctuations at the same time.

Material Type

For ordinary food or general pharmaceutical applications, 304L sanitary stainless steel pipe fittings  usually meet the requirements. However, if  your system contains high levels of chloride ions, requires frequent steam sterilization, or is planned for long-term continuous operation, 316L would be more reliable, which could also significantly reduce the corrosion risk and maintenance costs.

Pressure

The pressure rating is the maximum pressure that sanitary stainless steel pipe fittings can withstand. You need to ensure that the pipe fittings’ design pressure can cover the peak pressure of the system and leave a safety margin, especially at pump outlets, in high-speed fluid areas, or in regions with significant temperature fluctuations. It is recommended for you to leave a safety margin of more than 20%.

Operating Temperature

The operating temperature can affect the material stability and the lifespan of the seals. In high-temperature steam or alternating hot and cold conditions, materials must be higher temperature resistance and sealing structures.

Connection Method

If your pipeline needs frequent disassembly and cleaning, the clamp-type Sanitary Stainless Steel Pipe Fittings would be more suitable. When the project places greater emphasis on long-term sealing and structural strength, then you might consider using welded connection sanitary stainless steel pipe fittings.
